Oh, The Irony of It All

A friend sends along a link to this picture of President Obama's dinner last night with the Silicon Valley elite. Seated to the right of the Prez is Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to the left is Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

My anti-union friend notes:

Yesterday President Obama literally phoned in his support to the union-organized up Melee in Madison and then jetted to SV to sup with the friendly tech CEOs, including Steve Jobs. (I’m a big fan of AAPL, in full disclosure.)

High Irony? Yes, the US tech industry falls into two camps regarding unions: 1) non-union and 2) anti-union.

This is easy to understand. Obama falls into two camps, the "I seek votes" camp and the "I seek campaign money" camp. The union members will provide him with votes and the geeks will provide the campaign money (for a price of course).

We assume these things of politicians, and its nice to see that our assumptions are well grounded by practical examples...

Well, we can hope for the old saying to come true in this case:  He who sits on fence gets picket up ass...

State of the Union Address filled with empty promises

"The American people certainly don't need any more empty promises.  Millions of American families have been pushed to the edge of desperation by this economy.

There has been a lot of talk that the economy is "turning around", but in many areas of the country the employment situation continues to get even worse.  Payrolls decreased in 35 U.S. states during the month of December.

The truth is that the number of "good jobs" produced by the U.S. economy continues to shrink.  In fact, only 47 percent of working-age Americans have a full-time job at this point.

The American people are not going to buy this "economic recovery" as long as unemployment remains at epidemic levels in so many areas.  Just consider some of the stunningly high unemployment rates in some of our most important states....

Nevada - 14.5%

California - 12.5%

Florida - 12.0%

So did Barack Obama propose anything substantial that will actually create real jobs?

No.

Instead, all he had to offer was just a bunch of empty promises."

Here is the change promised...

Congress' job approval rating at 13%, lowest in history

...And the 13% is comprised of a combination of Goldman Sachs and defense contractor executives, GM executives, and people who didn't understand the big words in the poll question:  "Do you approve the job that Congress is doing?"

...And guess what happens when Congress' job approval hits 0%?  Nothing!

Baaah, Baaaah...

Obamacare Unconstitutional!!

Breaking news from Federal Court in Virginia:

RICHMOND, Va. – A federal judge in Virginia has declared the Obama administration's health care reform law unconstitutional.
U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson is the first judge to rule against the law, which has been upheld by two others in Virginia and Michigan.
Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli filed the lawsuit challenging the law's requirement that citizens buy health insurance or pay a penalty starting in 2014.
He argues the federal government doesn't have the constitutional authority to impose the requirement.
Other lawsuits are pending, including one filed by 20 states in a Florida court. Virginia is not part of that lawsuit.
The U.S. Justice Department and opponents of the health care law agree that the U.S. Supreme Court will have the final word.
