Massive government, fearful cowed citizenry, APC's on the streets and M4's pointed at civilian homes. A city shuts down and hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars of commerce (and potential tax revenue) is lost.
Is the cure worse than the disease?
If you are trying to establish that the money spent on shutting down Boston to catch a killer was poorly spent, I think you chose the wrong article. The one you cite to only touches on the economic, is fairly inaccurate & exaggerated to sway his readers (but then again so are your comments) & emphasizes the need to arm all people and how that would solve everything. Since the people of Boston are not all armed, under the circumstances, I believe the police and the gov't did the best that it could to protect its citizens from a psychotic killer who has sworn to kill as many people as he could because the police killed his murderous brother. You may believe that too much money was spent to protect the people and catch this murderer, but I suspect the people of Boston would disagree, as might you if, G-d forbid, it occurred in your area and your children were the ones at risk. It's easy to play Monday morning quarterback, but perhaps it would be more helpful if you tried to present REALISTIC alternatives the gov't could have used to protect its people and catch a killer without the economic consequences
ReplyDeleteIf it occurs in my area I hope to God every homeowner is armed and ready to protect themselves and their family. If one armed predator can send an entire city into a panic what will an army of this kind do? Citizens should not have to fear law enforcement and police should be able to trust law abiding citizens. Look what happened in Austin Texas in 1966. A lone sniper in the Univ. of Texas tower kept police pinned down as he wreaked havoc on students and passersby. When armed citizens heard the news they brought hunting rifles to the scene and kept the sniper pinned down until two police officers could make their way to the tower and subdue the sniper.
